 Plymouth Church History

The Plymouth Congregational Church was organized on October 20, 1893 and served people of both Paso Robles and San Miguel. Services were conducted in homes, in an abandoned building, and for about six months, shared the facilities of the First Christian Church building.

The Reverend S.D. Belt, who was pastor in 1898, began the canvass for funds to build a new church at a time when Paso Robles had suffered a severe drought and when money was scarce. When about the half the amount needed to provide a modest building had been raised, Reverend Belt died, on March 17, 1900. The fate of the new organization was in balance until May of that year, when a council was held in San Francisco and it was decided that a minister should be secured and a building program continued until a new church could be realized. Three months after Reverend Belt's death, the Reverend Francis W. Reid was called to service for Paso Robles and San Miguel.

The church was completed in 1901 at a cost of $2,500 including furnishings. Dedication was held on March 16 and 17 of 1902. In 1920, under the pastorage of the Reverend Thomas Lineweaver, the annex of the social hall and the Sunday School rooms were added and dedicated.
